Soil Stabilization Methods Explained by CFI – a Foundation Repair Contractor Serving Tallahassee, Naples, Ocala, West Palm Beach and All of Florida

If you are getting a foundation repair, you may be wondering exactly what the soil stabilization methods recommended for your project will do. As your local, experience foundation contractor, Certified Foundations, Inc. (CFI) wants to provide you with some information on the various methods of soil grouting used for stabilization, so that you can better understand exactly what your project will entail.

Permeation Grouting – This process injects grout that flows through looser surrounding soils, which then solidifies to create a more stable soil mass. It can be done using either chemical grout or micro-fine cement grout, depending on what properties the final soil needs to display.

Cement Grouting – With this process, a fluid cement mixture that can flow through voids and pores, but won’t entirely permeate the surrounding soil is injected into the soil strata. The solid structures it produces are highly water resistant, making this ideal for applications where water intrusion is an issue.

Compaction Grouting – Generally used when large voids, such as sinkholes, are present, this type of soil stabilization varies from other methods. Rather than mixing with the surrounding soils, the low-slump grout is injected at strategic locations to fill voids and push the soil into a denser, more stable column.

Polyurethane Grouting – This is one of the newest grouting methods being employed by foundation contractors, and is mainly used to protect against erosion and water intrusion by creating a barrier of non-permeable polymer. Some of these grouts are injected as expanding foam, which can be used in processes like sidewalk maintenance to lift slabs into a level position.
